What is on my easel
I thought I would post the progress of the oil painting I am currently working on. I don't have a title yet...that will come later. I love being lost in painting these mangroves. I am intertwining female figures in the mangroves which are expressing the female energy of nature.

"Shut Your Mouth"
Pencil drawing
18" by 24"
As with all of my most recent work I didn't intend this to turn out as it did. The image of the crow struck me at first, while I was drawing the gulf oil spill was unfolding. It wasn't until weeks into it that I decided to put the oil rig into the drawing. I am always intrigued by how the art work reveals itself to me. I use to call this my subconscious but I now call it my higher conscious , it is the part of me that is taped into the universal energy. The self portrait in twined in the cow resembles an American Indian head dress. The wisdom of the American Indian has been ignored and we are suffering the consequences.

The Last Dress
This is my most recent drawing called "The Last Dress" I found a photo of myself at 8th grade graduation, this was the last time I wore a dress. As I looked at myself and saw, what a miserable little lesbian I was in that dress I thought about how clothing identifies us and confines us. The drawing is what I am calling psychological surrealism

New Sculpture
This is a sculpture I made last week. I haven't done sculpture in years mostly because everything I sculpted in was so toxic and bad for the environment. But I found a new sculpting material that I can mix my self. It is peat moss, cement and pearlite, and Spanish moss. I formed a chicken wire form armature first and then formed the sculpture mixture on top of the wire. I really enjoyed using the natural materials. The smells and textures were fantastic, much better that fiberglass. This wall sculpture is about 3' tall by 15" wide. When I return home I plan on doing some 3-D pieces. I have an idea to incorporate circuit boards into the sculpture. I think it would be interesting to juxtapose technology artifacts with the primitive looking materials.

Skin Deep series
Sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out why I am painting something. Recently I entered some paintings in the Orlando Museums 1st Thursday and I had to write an artist statement about my art. Through writing that statement I discovered that as a figurative artist, especially a lesbian figurative artist I have often been censored. Because of this I have come up with ways to get around the censors.
